The EU extends the validity period of active substances such as tebufenozide, tembosulfuron, and hexythiazox
Recently, the EU announced the extension of the validity period of 20 active substances, including popular substances such as tebufenozide, tembosulfuron, and hexythiazox. This regulation was issued on April 30 and will take effect on the twentieth day (i.e., May 20) from the date of issuance.

1. Tebufenozide

Tebufenozide is a dihydrazide insecticide launched by Rohm Hass (now Dow AgroSciences) in 1990. It is a new type of release insecticide that promotes the molting of Lepidoptera larvae and has stimulating activity on the insect ecdysone receptor (EoR). It can cause precocious maturation of insects, especially Lepidoptera larvae, causing them to molt prematurely and die. At the same time, it can control the basic functions of insect reproduction and has a strong chemical sterilization effect.

At present, tebufenozide has been registered in China, the United States, the European Union, Brazil, Canada and other countries and regions. As of April 2024, tebufenozide has a total of 15 technical registrations and 99 formulations in China.

As the re-evaluation work was not completed before the original validity period, the EU announced that the validity period of tebufenozide would be extended to January 31, 2027.

2. Tembotrione

Tembotrione is a triketone cornfield herbicide developed by Bayer and first launched in Australia in 2007. As an inhibitor of para-hydroxyphenylpyruvate dioxygenase (HPPD), tembotrione blocks the biosynthesis of isoprenylquinone in plants. Symptoms include chlorosis and discoloration, which cause weeds to necrotize and die within two weeks.

At present, tembotrione has been registered in China, the United States, the European Union, Brazil, Australia, Chile and other countries and regions. As of April 2024, tembotrione has a total of 9 technical registrations and 20 formulations in China.

As the re-evaluation work was not completed before the original validity period, the EU announced that the validity period of cyclosulfuron will be extended to December 31, 2026.

III. Hexythiazox

Hexythiazox was first introduced by Japan Soda Company and registered in Japan in 1985. It is a new type of thiazolidinone non-systemic acaricide with contact and stomach poison functions. It has good penetration into the plant epidermis, but no systemic conduction effect. It has strong egg-killing and larval mite-killing properties against a variety of plant pest mites. It is ineffective against adult mites, but it has an inhibitory effect on the hatching of eggs laid by female adults that come into contact with the liquid.

At present, hexythiazox has been registered in China, the United States, the European Union, Brazil, India, Argentina and other countries and regions. As of April 2024, hexythiazox has a total of 6 technical registrations and 85 preparations in China.

As the re-evaluation work was not completed before the original validity period, the EU announced that the validity period of hexythiazox will be extended to January 31, 2027.

In addition to the active substances mentioned above, the EU active substance validity extension notification also includes dicyanoanthraquinone, pyrimidine sulfonate, fluazifop, prosulfuron and other active substances
