On March 15, Chilean Minister of Agriculture Esteban Valenzuela and Deputy Director of the General Administration of Customs of China Wang Lingjun signed the agreement at the La Moneda Palace, the Chilean Presidential Palace. Chilean President Gabriel Boric and Chilean Foreign Minister Alberto van Klaveren attended the signing ceremony.
President Boric said at the ceremony that the signing of the protocol further expanded the scope of Chilean exports to China, which is good news for Chile’s trade, agriculture and economy. In October 2023, during President Boric's visit to China, an agreement on the export of almonds to China was finalized. At the same time, a protocol on phytosanitary requirements for Chilean fresh stone fruits exported to China was also signed, allowing Chile to export fresh peaches and apricots to China. Chile has become the first country in the world where all major categories of fresh fruits can enter the Chinese market, and it is also the main supplier of fresh fruits from temperate climate regions to the Chinese market.

According to official data in 2023, the almond tree planting area in Chile is 8724.2 hectares, mainly distributed in the O'Higgins and Metropolitan areas in central Chile. According to statistics, in the 2022/23 production season, Chile exported more than 574,000 tons of fresh fruits to China, more than half of which were cherries.
